Octave — Privacy Policy

Last updated: July 9, 2026

Octave is a music player for Android that connects to a personal media server you provide (a Subsonic- or Navidrome-compatible server) and plays music you stream or download from it. This policy explains what information the app handles and how it is treated.

The short version: Octave does not collect, transmit, or sell any of your personal information to the developer or to any third party. The app communicates only with the server you choose to connect it to.

Information the app handles

Information the app does NOT collect

How your data is transmitted

All network activity happens directly between the app and the media server you configure. The developer has no access to that connection or its contents. Because you supply your own server, the handling of data on the server side is governed by that server and by you as its operator, not by this app.

Permissions

Octave requests only the permissions it needs to function:

Data retention and deletion

All data the app stores lives on your device. You can clear cached data and downloads from within the app or through Android's app settings, and uninstalling Octave removes all of its local data, including your saved server credentials.

Security

Your server credentials are stored using Android's encrypted preferences. As with any app, the overall security of your data also depends on the security of your device and of the server you connect to.

Children's privacy

Octave is not directed at children and does not knowingly collect any personal information from anyone, including children.

Changes to this policy

This policy may be updated from time to time. Any changes will be posted on this page with a revised "Last updated" date.
